I purchased a Lenovo Yoga 920 about a year ago, and previously I had a MacBook that I kept for almost a decade. While this computer is much faster, obviously, and more compatible with new software, it has always seemed a bit fragile in ways my MacBook never did. The buttons to adjust the screen brightness randomly either work or don’t. USB devices are consistently not recognized. The fingerprint sign-in will stop working for days or weeks at a time, then randomly be fine again, and it doesn’t always seem to be connected to a software update. The cursor will often move itself when I am editing text, and more than once I have deleted whole passages unintentionally because of it. Not every text program has an “undo” function, so this can result in a lot of lost work!
I’m also a student in a science field, and most open-source software that I use on this computer displays in awkward and often semi-unusable ways. Not sure if most scientists just write code mainly for Macs, but most of my colleagues seem pretty Mac loyal.
None of my issues have seemed large enough to go through the hassle of Lenovo’s famously bad customer service, but I have a growing expectation that at some random moment this computer will just fail. Which is to say, I don’t trust it at all. I can’t recommend this brand.
