When going to college, I was leaving behind an ancient Gateway desktop that had maybe 4gb RAM and a graphics card from the dark ages, along with a pentium 4 CPU.
I thought, what a hell of an upgrade the y700 gaming laptop would be, it has heaps more RAM, a decent GPU, an i7 CPU from this decade, and there’s no way it all doesn’t mesh together right?
No, I think it’s the motherboard but some component in here is total Chinese garbage. The thing heats up like death when playing Valve games from 2007 (TF2/CSS/etc.) and if you play for more than 10 minutes, the keyboard dies and cannot be brought back to life. The only fix is a hard restart and I’ve heard this problem is even common with these. It sounds like a motherboard thing, they got decent performance parts everywhere except where it matters. This thing isn’t worth the metals you’d scrap it for, it’s a glorified multimedia laptop (and to be honest the touchscreen option should have told me that way back when I got it). I suppose the “gaming” in “gaming laptop” probably meant chess.com or at worst flash games on Newgrounds.
